Reflections On Life's Journeys

About Steve

Life has a way of taking us down roads we never expected to travel. Looking back, mine has been a journey filled with adventure, challenges, lessons, friendships, and opportunities that have shaped who I am today.

My journey began in the United States Marine Corps, where I proudly served for ten years. Those years taught me discipline, perseverance, leadership, and the value of teamwork. Like many Marines, my path started at boot camp, where I learned that we are often capable of far more than we realize. During boot camp, I was honored to receive the Leatherneck Magazine Crossed Silver Rifles Award as the High Team Shooter.

Throughout my military career, I attended numerous schools and training programs, including Basic Electronics, Radio Fundamentals, Ground Radio Repair, Leadership School, Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare, Discussion Leader Training, Cryptology School, and specialized communications training at Motorola in Scottsdale, Arizona. Each school added another layer of knowledge and experience, helping prepare me for the responsibilities that came with serving around the world.

Marksmanship remained a passion throughout my time in the Corps. While assigned to 9th Communication Battalion in Twenty-Nine Palms, California, I earned recognition as High Shooter of the Month. Over the course of my military career, I was recognized as High Shooter of the Range seven times with the rifle and twice with the pistol. Those accomplishments were never just about accuracy. They reinforced lessons in focus, preparation, consistency, and attention to detail that would serve me well long after leaving the military.

While stationed in Japan, I discovered another lifelong passion. I immersed myself in the study of Okinawan Kenpo Karate, eventually earning the rank of Nidan, or second-degree black belt. What began as martial arts training evolved into a lifelong commitment to teaching and personal growth. Over the years, I have had the privilege of teaching students around the world as Sensei Steve, sharing not only techniques but also lessons in confidence, discipline, and respect.

My time stationed at Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station in Hawaii introduced me to the skies. What started as flying lessons quickly grew into another passion. I earned my Commercial Pilot Certificate along with Instrument, Single-Engine, and Multi-Engine ratings. I got to fly throughout the Hawaiian Islands, experiencing firsthand the beauty and wonder of one of the most remarkable places on Earth.

When my Marine Corps career came to an end, a new chapter began. I spent the next decade servicing and selling pre-press graphic arts equipment, including laser imagesetters and front-end publishing systems in the Saint Louis area. As technology evolved, I transitioned into document imaging solutions and eventually found myself drawn to the rapidly growing world of Internet services. By 2000, I was helping businesses navigate the emerging digital landscape through email services, DSL connectivity, web hosting, and online technologies.

Entrepreneurship soon became another important part of my journey. In 2003, my wife and I opened a Polynesian-themed salon featuring eight styling stations, pedicure services, and nail stations. Building and operating a successful small business taught us invaluable lessons about customer service, community, and perseverance.

In 2011, I founded Infusing Markets, LLC, a marketing, web design, and SEO company. Working with businesses across a variety of industries has allowed me to help entrepreneurs and organizations share their stories, grow their brands, and connect with the people they serve.

Then came another unexpected chapter.

In 2020, I began performing magic professionally. What started as a personal interest quickly grew into something much larger. Since then, I have entertained audiences throughout Missouri and Illinois, performing more than 130 shows for families, businesses, community organizations, and special events. There is something truly rewarding about creating moments of wonder, laughter, and amazement for people of all ages.

In 2024, I returned to a passion that had quietly waited in the background for many years: songwriting. Through Country Grown Reflections, I found a creative outlet to share stories, emotions, observations, and life experiences through music. Since then, I have written and released more than twenty original songs, distributed through DistroKid to streaming platforms including Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube, and many others.

As I reflect on the many paths my life has taken, from Marine to pilot, martial artist to entrepreneur, salesman to magician, and now songwriter and storyteller, one lesson stands above all others.

Over the years, I have interacted with thousands of friends, associates, prospects, clients, students, audiences, and fellow travelers on life’s journey. Despite our different backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences, there is one truth that consistently reveals itself: everyone simply wants to be content and happy in their world.

That belief is at the heart of Country Grown Reflections.

The songs, stories, and reflections shared here are inspired by the people I have met, the lessons I have learned, the challenges I have faced, and the moments that remind us what truly matters. My hope is that somewhere within these pages, you may find a memory, a smile, a lesson, or perhaps a reflection that connects with your own journey.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing a small part of yours with me.
